Wish Fulfillment brings together a series of paintings whose portrayals of wishing wells and cascading
fountains combine recognizable forms with more absurd constructions of the imagination. Robinson’s
surrealistic renderings hearken to ancient folklore once speculating on their enchanted qualities, as
individuals believed in the promise of better health in exchange for coin offerings. Yet, as scientific data
would later reveal, their perceived medicinal powers may have been the result of the coins themselves,
whose purifying chemical properties made water safer to drink. Of interest to Robinson is this teleological
question arising between wishing and the fulfillment of wishes, the causes and goals for which, like the
closed circuits of wells and fountains, redouble on each other in continuous feedback loops.
The exhibition took place at CRUSH Projects, a project space of Hesse Flatow, on May 12 - June 24, 2022.
